The garden is home to thousands of British flora and fauna and more than 2,600 species have been identified in the garden since it opened in 1995.

The Wildlife Garden is open daily from 24 March to early November, with regular free family events. Visits are welcome by arrangement during the winter months – just ask at an information desk inside the Museum or email wildlifegarden@nhm.ac.uk

Highlights and attractions Lady’s bedstraw, field scabious and wild carrot are in flower on the chalk down land.
Speckled woods, red admirals, meadow browns and large white butterflies can be seen on sunny days. Common darter dragonflies and azure damselflies are regularly seen around the ponds Purple loosestrife, hemp agrimony and great willowherb attract bees and other pollinators.
Fledgling wrens and blue tits can be heard calling throughout the garden at the right time of year, or look out for the Jersey tiger moth.
